Contractor has installed Hardwood, Engineered flooring and Ceramic Tile and recommends it to all his customers

I have used the Tyroc Subflooring system on many occasions. The product is the best thing we have ever seen to be used on basement floors.  It is amazing how much warmer and drier the basement becomes after the tyroc is installed.  We have put hardwood, engineered flooring and ceramic tile on top of it with great success.

The best part of it is if the basement ever gets wet again, the Tyroc stays unaffected and makes the repair/cleanup a snap.  We suggest to every client to use this on their basement floor.

Tile, Hardwood and Carpet installed over Tyroc Subflooring in a 3500 sq.ft. basement.

BTW, my basement project finished out great. My tile installer didn’t want to lay tile over Tyroc so I let him take out the Tyroc from the bar area and bathrooms to please him and his warranty. However, he did use the Tyroc under the tile in the laundry closet, and that area is the best tiled area in the whole basement!!  The other areas are somewhat uneven (which is why we paid for the leveling product) and with the big 11-by- 22 inch tiles, it is noticeable, but not in laundry closet.  My hardwood guy and carpet guy had no issues.  So I have a wonderfully warm basement, with no need for heated floors (which seems to be the norm in houses like mine) and my wife is extremely pleased.  Your product does as advertised, as the humidity level in the basement is a non issue, and the warmth of the floor is impressive.   Thanks again!!!

Customer choosing Tyroc Subflooring over DriCore.

I just purchased over 500 sq.ft. or Tyroc for my basement which I’m in the midst of finishing. After researching so many methods and types of subflooring, I went with this due to the profile, complete lack of organic materials, and the fact that it’s not super rigid, so the floor doesn’t have to be absolutely perfectly flat.  With the DriCore, there’s OSB on top (organic, so it’ll rot/mold/mildew), and if it’s not perfectly shimmed or installed on a dead-flat surface, it’ll ‘clap’ when you walk on it.  No thanks.

I just had my pallet delivered, and thanks.

Tyroc Subflooring survives the flood test…from an appreciative home owner.

Doug thank you for the help in purchasing the Tyrock product. It is as advertised. Easy to lay down. Good insulating properties.  Easy to walk on, and silent.  We had an early test here in Pittsburgh before we finished the basement.  A major snow followed by major rain. It broke through the outer wall and french drain and the Tyroc kept the water from flooding the basement finished flooring. Thanks again.

Bamboo installed over Tyroc Subflooring on slab on grade.

It was hard to find Tyroc in the Vancouver area, but I had a pallet (152 panels) shipped from Kelowna from: OK Builders Supplies Ltd.  Fast, friendly service. They really go the extra mile.

We just laid the first room tonight over slab on grade. It went down fast and smooth, cutting easily. Half the bamboo floating floor is in. What a huge difference between standing on this floor and standing on the laminate over foam in the next room. This feels like a real wood floor! It also passes the dog toenail test: dachshund running over bamboo is nice and quiet. Tyroc is worth the expense for ultimate comfort and how livable it makes the rooms.

Consumer likes the look and feel of Tyroc Subflooring under their Free-Fit flooring.

Hello Doug,

Mike, the installer at Nick’s Flooring, and his assistant installed the Free-Fit floor over the Tyroc right before Christmas and did a great job.  …  It looks great. When my husband did his workout on the floor, he commented that the Tyroc layer reduces the impact on his feet and legs.

Thanks for checking.

Question from home owner.

Hi,

I’m a homeowner finishing my basement in a mountain house in West Virginia.  The floor is poured concrete, about a year old, very smooth & level.

I’d like to know where to get Tyroc & how much it costs. About 500 square feet.

Also, I’ll have a pool table under engineered wood floors. Any issues w/ Tyroc as subfloor?

How do I install the engineered wood? Glued to Tyroc/stapled to Tyroc/lay plywood then attach? Which is best?

The basement has cinderblock walls on rear & right side, front & left are 2×6 framing (outside walls).  Do I install Tyroc tight against all 4 sides with the rear & right framing built on top, or frame a wall 1″ out from the cinder blocks on the concrete and then install Tryoc up to it?

Thanks for your help,

Brian C.

Answer

Hi Brian,

Yes Tyroc can be delivered to your location in West Virginia.  I will need an address and if delivery truck with a lift gate is required.  Each skid is 636 sq.ft. and weighs approx. 1400 lbs.

Yes pool tables can be installed over Tyroc.  If your engineered wood can handle it Tyroc can handle it.  It has been tested up to 12,500 lbs/sq.ft.

Gluing the finished flooring (if it is not a floating system) would be recommended and less labor intensive (rather than laying the plywood over Tyroc then stapling).  Just follow the manufacturer’s installation directions as you would if you were installing the engineered wood directly over the cement flooring or any other subfloor.

As long as your framing walls are not support walls you can frame on top of Tyroc.  Tyroc can be installed wall to wall as it does not contract or expand due to temperature changes or any moisture issues.  Tyroc is impervious to moisture and provides a moisture barrier as well as a thermal (and sound) barrier for your finished flooring installation.

Doug,

Actually got my 2 pallets delivered this morning from the Meek’s in Bourbon.

Thanks for helping get me hooked up with Tyroc – can’t wait to put it down!

Ed

Doug, yes we were able to hook up with Kyle and get the flooring. Went down like a breeze. Product was very easy to put down. I used my circular saw to cut down the few pieces I needed cut which worked real well. Any DIY person could easily install this.

Hello Doug,

Thanks for your response.

I have a basement about 1400 sqft the I want to finish with a product that is both green and will help with my moisture problems. However, after this recent rain I have come to the realization that I need to do some foundation work before I even attempt to put something on the floor. I have 3 locations in the basement that is weeping in around the floor and wall so I am sure I either do not have the proper drainage system underneath or it is plugged up, so it may be a month or so before I am ready to finish the basement floor, We had to completely gut a fully finished basement this past month.

Thank You for your time.

Hello Doug,

Thanks for your email.  We are very, very interested in your product.  I am presently waiting on a sample in the mail to confirm this is the product we are looking for.  My husband and I seem to have found ourselves sought after for repairing unusual situations in homes and buildings.  We were looking at combining  a Hardy board type material and a waterproof membrane for a particular project we are doing.  My husband is presently in China but will be returning tonight.  It was my job while he was gone to find something to fit our needs.  I came across your product and it seems to have all the attributes.  Roughly we initially need 100 sq ft.  If our “experiment” works we will be needing more.  As soon as the sample is received, has been reviewed by my engineer husband, I literally will be doing what it takes to get this material here to Kansas City as soon as possible.

Beth Emrick, End Consumer – Laminate over Tyroc

Hi Doug,

I just wanted to let you know that we used Tyroc as an underlayment when we renovated our living room and hallway and are thoroughly impressed.

We tore up our old carpet and laid down Tyroc over the old OSB subfloor.  Then we laid down laminate wood flooring over Tyroc.  It was a breeze.  We didn’t have to do anything to the old OSB floor in terms of leveling or sanding the joints and completed the 370 sq. ft. project in less than a day and half start to finish!

Even more so I was so blessed…as I suffer from allergies and after installing the new floor my allergy’s literally went away.  Plus I noticed that I used to change out my filter in the air system once a month and saw nothing but black dirt and dust.  Now my filter looks brand new even after 3 months!  The floor is warmer and even more comfortable than when I had carpet on it.  I wouldn’t have believed it until I experienced it.  You have a great product and I have told many of my friends about it.

Thanks again,

Beth Emrick

David Rhoades, B’s Renaissance Remodelers LLC, Springfield, MO

David commented after using Tyroc underlayment and tile over tyroc: “I was very, very impressed with Tyroc.  I couldn’t believe the adhesion characteristics between the Tyroc surface board and the thin set.  And even more, the amount of force it took to break up one of the tiles we needed to replace after we had laid it down.  I took a hammer to it and it just wouldn’t break and then after it did finally break it took even more to remove the thin set.  I have never seen anything like it.  Tyroc is a great product.  I most definitely will be using it more in my projects.”

David Rhodes, owner of B’s Renaissance Remodelers LLC, recently used Tyroc underlayment product on a challenging remodel.  The job site was a combination of clay over granite.  Although sump pumps generally handle the water under the house traditionally installed tile flooring might have failed and certainly would have been cold underfoot due to the moisture in the crawl space.  Tyroc provided a dry, warm underlayment for the tile flooring.  In addition, the owners added needed closet space by expanding a walk in closet into the garages third bay.  Tyroc underlayment product allowed the tile flooring to float over the garage’s concrete slab and the adjacent wood floor.

B’s Renaissance Remodelers is known for remodeling historic homes back to their original design here in the Ozarks and David will tackle many jobs some contractors would rather walk away from.  With over 30 years experience he has seen just about everything.  And when it comes to floors he knows that moisture and movement are his biggest enemies for any finished flooring product over the subfloor.  Now that he has had experience with Tyroc he plans to use it on as many flooring projects as he can because he knows it will protect the finished floor and prevent him from having to “comeback” years afterward to fix a problem.

Melvin Ma, ProSource, Account Manager  – Toronto, ON, Canada

Melvin pushed hard to get the Tyroc product in to sell to his customers.  ProSource is wholesale dealer to the professional flooring market.  “Toronto’s largest TRADE ONLY flooring showroom!”  Melvin has had nothing but positive feedback from the flooring professionals he has introduced and sold Tyroc to.  He likes the low profile (1/2” H) and the fact that it is 100% Green and uses used tires and plastic bottles in construction of the panels.  He recommends Tyroc to all his customers when appropriate.
