Tyroc Subflooring Product Information

Panel Corner

  • Saves Costs of Flooring Installations
  • All In One Sub-Floor and Underlayment
  • Moisture Barrier
  • Sound Barrier
  • Floating System De-Couples From Substrate

Tyroc Subflooring is a dual panel system.  The surface board is made from Magnesium Oxide commonly called MgO Board.  Magnesia or MgO is a versatile mineral that when used as part of a cement mixture and cast into thin cement panels under proper curing procedures and practices can be used in residential and commercial building construction.  MgO Board is virtually impervious to fire, water, insects; does not feed mold or mildew; is non-toxic, non- flammable and non-combustible; is durable, maintains its dimensional stability – even when wet; and, has exceptional bonding surface.

The underside (underlayment) of Tyroc is made from recycled car tires and post-consumer Recycled Rubber Tires and Plastic-small
plastics.  The underlayment design is diamond shaped with 1/8” groves to allow for airflow between the substrate and the panel.  This dissipates any moisture issues from the substrate and channels excess moisture to drains in basements.

Glue DownOne product, practically every flooring application.  Tyroc Subfloooring is a technologically advanced flooring material that offers superior performance in every category when compared to traditional wood, gypsum and cement based products.  Tyroc’s ship lap seam system creates a moisture barrier and exceeds sound building codes for IIC and STC for any finished floor covering.  It eliminates the need for substrate preparation and other materials required to meet sound codes in the flooring/ceiling assembly.  Tyroc provides an underlayment for any finished floor.

Tyroc is a revolutionary subflooring solution for any flooring problems faced by home owners, flooring installers, builders and architects. It is a 100% GREEN and environmentally safe product. Tyroc is impervious to moisture, mildew and mold keeping your home air quality pure and safe as well as adds warmth and comfort to your finished floors.

What is Tyroc made from?

Tyroc is an innovative subfloor product that was designed by engineers, contractors, consumers and retailers to be both a practical and environmentally responsible alternative to existing subfloor products.

Tyroc’s two piece design combines a patented inorganic surface board with a flexible base made of 100% recycled materials.  The patented Tyroc MgO surface board is composed of magnesium oxide, a natural inorganic material that is ideal for use in wet or damp areas. The surface board is impervious to fire, water, and insects and will not feed mold or mildew. The surface board is also non- toxic and is non-combustible.

The Tyroc molded base is composed of a blend of recycled rubber from used tires and recycled plastic. The groove pattern on the bottom has been designed to allow moisture to move freely to floor drains and provide a water proof barrier protecting whatever finished flooring product you install over Tyroc. The groove pattern and permits airflow under the subfloor so that any moisture that does not drain will evaporate combating any mold or mildew growth on the substrate under Tyroc.

Tyroc is Comfortable, Warm, Dry and Quiet
Designed by contractors and engineers, Tyroc is an innovative subfloor that results in a comfortable and healthy finished floor whether below grade in a basement or above grade where the substrate floor is over a crawl space or a concrete slab on grade where moisture can often be a problem.   Tyroc adds value to the entire home as it will warm the finished floor by almost 10 degrees (F). It will extend the life of your carpets, tile, linoleum, VCT, laminate, engineered and hardwood flooring installed over Tyroc.  Radiant heat mats can be installed directly over Tyroc.  And Tyroc will actually improve the efficiency of these systems as the radiant heat generated will radiate up and not down through Tyroc.  The result is a finished floor that feels solid but with give.

Environmentally Friendly
Tyroc is an environmentally friendly product that eliminates used tires and plastic from land fill sites. 2.5 car tires and 8.5 kg (18.6 lbs.) of plastic are used in the production of each 100 sq. feet of Tyroc. The surface board is made from a natural, fireproof, inorganic material. Our choice of surface material eliminates the need to cut down millions of trees each year to make subfloor products for homes and businesses.

Healthy All Indoor Environments
Tyroc subflooring is non-toxic and mold and mildew proof and will result in an environment with fewer allergens than wood subflooring products.

Easy to Carry and Fast to Install
Tyroc is available in easy to carry 48”X16”X 1/2”panels. The engineered 5.3 square foot panels are 30% – 50% faster to install than wood subflooring products and many concrete based underlayments. Tyroc panels are designed to remain firmly in place during installation.   And with it’s under lap/overlap system at the seams it results in a level homogeneous subflooring system that is impervious to moisture and provides a moisture, vapor, anti-fracture, decoupling and sound barrier all in one.

Adjusts to Uneven Floors
Tyroc is designed to be flexible and automatically adjusts to minor variances, cracks or pitting in a concrete floor. No leveling shims are required to install Tyroc subflooring and then install your finished floor.  With Tyroc you will not have any clicking or clacking.

Energy Saving
Tyroc acts as a highly effective barrier to moisture and cold and can increase floor temperatures by up to 3.2°C which can greatly reduce home heating costs.

1” More Headroom
Tyroc’s low profile ensures that in a basement application you will get up to 1” more headroom than basements with wood or plastic subflooring systems.

Install It Immediately
Tyroc can be installed immediately after purchase – no need to acclimatize the panels prior to installation. Tyroc can also be installed over both new (green) or seasoned concrete floors.

Paint and Other Rolled on Surfaces
Tyroc panels can be painted. It is recommended that the seams be filled with flexible joint compound that can be lightly sanded so the seams don’t show then the panels be painted with a primer then with floor paint.  Please keep in mind Tyroc was not designed to be a finished floor but as a subfloor with a finished flooring product installed over it.
